Barrett's Esophagus

Posted on April 16, 2010.
Barrett's EsophagusI have Barrett's esophagus and now my third cousin has cancer of the esophagus?

She is younger than me (she was 30 years and I am 36). It is next to my mother my family. She had no risk factors, including the absence of Barrett's esophagus and without overweight. There are gastrointestinal problems, on both sides of my family (colon cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and GERD). Does this mean that my chances of my Barrett into cancer are greatly increased?

(Note that I have a twice yearly endoscopy and colonoscopy every five years ... with my first endoscopy was in 2004 and my first colonoscopy in 2006)

It appears that you have inherited factors that increase your risk of such a thing happens. But I also sounds like you are doing everything we can to catch any problem. Keep up the good work.
