Elizabeth Zimmermann (August 9 1910ovember 30, 1999) was a British-born knitter, known for revolutionizing the modern practice of knitting through his books and educational series on public television.
While knitting back and forth on straight needles was rigid standard, she advocated knitting in the middle stage flexible circular needle to produce seamless clothing and make it easier to knit intricate patterns. She also advocated the method of Continental knitting, arguing it is the most efficient and faster to knit. During the Second World War, German or continental knitting fell into disfavor in the United Kingdom and the United States because of its association with Germany. Most English books on knitting today are in English or American style. Elizabeth Zimmerman contributed to reintroduce continental style knitting in the United States.
Biography
Born in England, Elizabeth Lloyd-Jones, she attended art schools in Switzerland and Germany. His autobiography "Digressions" in the Knitting Around book reprinted several of his original artwork alongside the text. Zimmerman first learned to knit from her mother and aunts (English style), and later his housekeeper Switzerland (German or continental style).

EZ (as she is known among knitters) finally migrated to U.S. with her new husband, German master brewer Arnold Zimmerman. The Zimmermans first settled in Wisconsin in which a school converted to become home to Schoolhouse Press, a correspondence knitting business still function in the school and run by her daughter Meg Swansen.
Initiatives
Zimmermann is credited with the first example of knitting a sweater Aran seen in American magazines (Vogue Knitting). (Although it may have been the first point of knitting, another model was published two years ago.
