Unfortunately, it is especially judges (lawyers before) out there who decide on penalties end up being a mere slap on the hand. The Liberals do not support child molesters. But we do not believe that people of imprisonment should be used for those who are a real threat to the community - including child molesters. The judicial system is it more to protect the innocent than to punish the guilty. We could just end the judicial system and everyone hang arrested and charged with a crime, but it is not fair. To give true justice, you must be willing to allow some guilty to go free in exchange for killing / imprisoning / etc. innocent. This is a major tenant of the Bill of Rights.
